Fatemeh Jafari & the Lamp Lifeboat Ladder Program

At 24, Fatemeh fled a forced marriage and a threatened “honor killing.” In 2022, Fatemeh escaped with her 14-year-old brother, Ali. They were able to relocate to Canada through the Life Lampboat Ladder program.

For over two decades, Reed Smith has represented hundreds of survivors of sexual and gender-based violence trapped on dangerous migration routes. Working with NGO partners — including the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture and the World Refugee & Migration Council — around the world through the Lamp Lifeboat Ladder program, the firm accompanies women from point of flight to point of self-reliance in a safe country.
