Karla Cueva

Karla Cueva is a Honduran lawyer with extensive experience in the protection and defense of human rights and the development of laws, regulations, public policies and programs on trafficking and commercial exploitation, social protection, child labor among other topics.

Most recently, Karla was Honduran Minister of Human Rights from January 2018 to January 2021. She also served as Assistant Minister of Human Rights and Justice from 2014 to 2017, and as Assistant Minister of Social Policy of the Ministry of Social Development from 2010 to 2012.

She has worked as an official in public institutions including the National Commissioner for Human Rights, the Honduran Institute for Children and Family, and the Public Ministry. She was a consultant for Casa Alianza Honduras, ChildFund, Ayuda en Acción, Plan International, as well as in international cooperation organizations including the International Labour Organization, the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour, UNICEF and the World Bank.

Karla received a Master of Advanced Studies in Children’s Rights degree from the University of Fribourg and the Kurt Bösch University Institute, Switzerland, in 2008.
