Actions to Transform the Global Refugee and Migration Systems
On 27 January, Marc Sommers, Sarah Dryden-Peterson of Harvard University’s School of Education, and Suha Tutunji, academic director of Jusoor in Lebanon will discuss refugee education policies and practice, and the implications of limited access to education for refugee youth. This paper aims to demonstrate the importance of including displaced youth in governance and decision making, to identify key barriers to engagement that displaced youth face, and to highlight effective strategies for engaging youth.
One of the first of its kind, this multi-stakeholder event brought together representatives from the private sector and civil society as well as researchers and former political leaders to explore the challenges and opportunities in the use of technology and its potential to transform the global refugee system.
The author analyzes three digital trends with the potential to create profound changes, perhaps even to redraw the boundaries of what constitutes “protection,” a notion upon which the humanitarian system is based.
