Whoever wins Canada’s election next week will immediately face a decision with huge implications for global security and international law. At stake is the equivalent of US$300 billion of frozen Russian central bank reserves held in western currencies, C$22 billion of which is held in Canadian dollars.

The World Refugee & Migration Council (WRMC) welcomes the decision of the G7 to extend a 50 billion dollar loan to Ukraine, which will be underwritten by the earnings of Russian assets that have been frozen by G7 countries and the European Union.
