It has also shown us their enormous strength and resilience. Throughout the pandemic, our initiative Lamp Lifeboat Ladder has continued to accompany refugee survivors of sexual and gender-based violence on their journeys to resettle in safe countries and rebuild their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lamplifeboatladder.org\/\"><strong>Lamp Lifeboat Ladder<\/strong><\/a> (LLL) is a survivor-led initiative striving to transform the refugee ecosystem and make it more humane for those seeking safety, while broadening pathways for resettlement to safe countries. Survivors of sexual violence and torture themselves are leading the process of developing the vision and goals based on their experiences, needs and what they want their futures to look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;But despite our fears that the pandemic would grind government activities to a halt, we\u2019ve figured out new ways of working, and government officials in Canada, Jordan and Greece are pulling through after all. As a result, two families have won their resettlement cases and will be moving to Canada early in the new year!&#8221;<\/p><cite>Jayne Fleming, LAmp Lifeboat Ladder<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LLL\u2019s first pilot project is a public-private partnership with the Government of Canada and the Canadian Center for Victims of Torture focused on protecting and accompanying women and girls seeking safety. Through a special program with the Canadian Government we are working to provide safe, new homes for 90 families. Doing so amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic has made resettlement work immensely more complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But despite our fears that the pandemic would grind government activities to a halt, we\u2019ve figured out new ways of working, and government officials in Canada, Jordan and Greece are pulling through after all. As a result, two families have won their resettlement cases and will be moving to Canada early in the new year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We don\u2019t know how long it will take to resettle all 90 families in our project\u2014but we\u2019re committed to staying with them until they are safe. Our teams would do anything to support people who\u2019ve lost their country rebuild their lives. Sadly, many countries that could help don\u2019t want to admit people seeking safety. But we are working our hardest to change this reality and create more pathways for protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Violence against men, women and children will not end in 2021, but with our partners, and hopefully many others, we\u2019ll continue to work with and accompany refugee survivors to rebuild their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Join us as a partner. The workshop in Quito, organised by UNHCR partner, the Fundaci\u00f3n Casa de Refugio Matilde, is taught by a collective of feminist artists called Batuka Batumb\u00e1. ; In Ecuador, six out of 10 women are survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. UNHCR\u2019s partner, Fundaci\u00f3n Casa de Refugio Matilde, provides them with a roof as well as social and psychological support to break circles of violence and restart their lives from scratch. Women and their children can stay at the shelter, which has capacity for 40 people. Some 1.5 million Venezuelans have arrived in Ecuador since 2016. While most are passing through, in transit to other countries, approximately 380,000 of them have remained in Ecuador. Meanwhile, despite the 2016 peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC, Ecuador continues to receive Colombian refugees and asylum-seekers, as it has done for many years.
